My First Crush…
I vividly remember my teenage years when I was in college and used to have a lot of time to myself. Wohbhikya din the…
I used to go for evening walks at a nearby park. It was my special time of the day as I would empty my mind and also make new friends as I went along. After a few rounds, I would settle down for a chat with my gang of buddies. We would crack silly jokes, pull each other’s legs, observe all kinds of people around and generally do a lot of matargashti… We even had nicknames for each other which would be based on a particular funny incident that happened with that person. For eg, Toti (in Marathi)…which implies that the boy sees the girl in the eye and falls for her instantly:)
On one such day, I was chilling out with my friends in one of the benches at the park when this really good looking boy passed by. My heart skipped a beat and I just couldn’t take my eyes off him. He was tall, fair and wore a pleasant smile. He greeted some of the people around and then continued with his jog. As for me, it felt as if there was no one around except for that one boy who was jogging alone in the park. My eyes followed him till he was out of sight and bingo! My heart was stolen. I went quiet after that and did not pay any attention to the banter that was going on around me.
After that day, I would visit the park just to get a glimpse of 'that boy'. My eyes would constantly wander looking out for him. The moment he arrived I would feel very happy, as if my day was made. This went on for a few days.
Finally, one day a friend of mine stopped him and introduced all of us to him. It seems he knew him from before.
‘Hi! Pawan. He smiled as he introduced himself and started shaking hands with each one of us. The moment he looked into my eyes and flashed his killer smile, I was captivated. He stretched out his hand and I was lost in the moment. My hand automatically lifted and like a kid wanting her favourite chocolate, grabbed the opportunity.
KyunNaye Lag Rahehainyehdhartigagan…
Maine PoochatohBoliyehpagliPawan…
Pyaar Hua…Chupke Se….
Yeh Kya Hua..Chupke Se….
This became one of my favourite songs of those times and I would listen to it very often.
‘Shivani’. I finally blurted out, still not wanting to take my eyes off him.
Slowly, he became good friends with all of us. We would hang out together and sometimes even go for movies together. Once I got lucky as I had the chance to sit right next to him while watching a movie. It was one of the best phases of my life which I would never forget. I knew he was not into any relationship at that point in time, but I also knew that he just treated me as a friend. Hence, I never felt like expressing my feelings for him as I didn’t want to ruin our friendship.
Today, we are friends on Facebook. He is happily married and settled and so am I. Maybe someday, I will muster the courage to tell him about this beautiful chapter of my life that left me speechless….
